The Challenge

The key challenge was creating private offices within an exposed, industrial base building while maintaining openness, light, and a warm, inviting feel. The space needed to balance glass-fronted offices and acoustic separation, integrate flexibility and height‑adjustable workstations, and soften the raw concrete, brick, and ductwork with residential-inspired finishes and playful colour - without compromising functionality or cohesion across the workplace.

Warmth, flexibility, balance.

CanAlaska’s new office was envisioned as a space that supports focus, movement, and connection while honouring the building’s raw industrial character. The design thoughtfully balances privacy and openness, using glass‑fronted offices to maintain light and visibility while working in harmony with exposed concrete, brick, and ductwork.

Furniture as atmosphere

Materiality played a key role in softening the space. Blended wood and crisp white laminates bring warmth and reflect light throughout, while residential‑inspired shelving and lounge elements add familiarity and personality. Height‑adjustable desks throughout the office support wellness and movement, reinforcing a modern, people‑first approach to work.Playful moments, purposeful designPops of bold colour introduced through seating add energy and character without overwhelming the overall palette. From relaxed boardroom gatherings to casual collaboration in the lounge, each area was designed to feel comfortable, inviting, and intentional.

The result is a cohesive, welcoming workplace that reflects CanAlaska’s culture and supports the everyday experience of those who use it.
